We all know what this is, and of course, we feel embarrassed when we know that our breath smells, but what is the cause of this? If you know the cause of your bad breath, there might be something to help you fight it, or at least prevent it. Read some of the causes we are listing down below in order to see what you can do and how you can avoid having bad breath ever again. Forget about keeping your distances.
What Causes Bad Breath?
Bad breath, also known as halitosis, may happen to you due to a number of reasons.
Food. There are some foods out there that you can’t eat if you know that you’re going to speak with people up close. Some of these foods are garlic, onion, spicy foods, and even coffee. These foods can cause bad breath, so if you find yourself in a position where you have already eaten any of the previously mentioned foods what you can do is brush your teeth, if you can, chew sugar-free gum, one of the easiest way of doing it, and, of course, use mouthwash to give your mouth a burst of freshness.
Tobacco. Smoking is can cause an odor that others will notice.
Disease. Tonsillitis, sinus infections, respiratory issues, and even diabetes can result in bad breath. When you speak with your doctor, he might prescribe you medicines in order to heal any condition you might have, but these medicines may also make your mouth dry, resulting in your breath smell even worse. Talk to your doctor about any side effects your medicines might have.
Bacteria. If you do not brush your teeth, floss, and skip your dentist visits, bacteria will not be removed from your mouth. If this sticky bacteria builds up, then you might end up having bad breath as well. Brush your teeth twice a day, floss daily, and also visiting your dentist regularly in order to keep the bacteria under control.
Dental issues. Having gum disease or cavities can affect how your breath smells as well. If you have ill-fitting appliances or crowded teeth, then you should visit us, and we will recommend what to do.
Dry mouth. Smoking, mouth breathing, or medications can leave your mouth dry, and when this happens, you will experience a lack of saliva. This could also indicate an underlying health concern. Talk to your dentist about your dry mouth to know how to act and what to do about your bad breath.
