Dentures are removable appliances used to replace missing teeth. There are two options: partial dentures or full dentures. A partial denture will replace missing teeth by using some remaining teeth for support.
A full denture is used when no healthy teeth are remaining. A third option is an implant overdenture which can be a partial or full denture, which snaps into place allowing for increased stability.
There are two options for full dentures: “conventional” or ” immediate” dentures. A conventional denture is fabricated after all teeth have been removed. Choosing the conventional route would allow time for healing and reshaping of the gums before fabricating the new denture. The other option, which is an “immediate” denture, would allow for some of the front teeth to remain in place during the denture fabrication process. The dentures are made completely in advance and placed immediately once the remaining teeth are removed. Adjustments are required on an individual basis.
A partial denture is a removable dental prosthesis that can be used if you are missing some teeth but still have some natural teeth remaining.

This type of partial denture is held in place by narrow clasps made of a metal alloy or, in certain cases, of a flexible plastic. The clasps will “hug” some of your remaining teeth to provide support and retention for the partial denture.

This type of partial denture will also replace missing teeth but does not incorporate “clasps” to provide retention. Instead, crowns are placed on the supporting natural teeth with a mechanical interlocking design to connect to the framework of the removeable partial denture. This offers a snug, tight fit which provides improved support for chewing and enhanced esthetics.
